Ministry of Gender, Social and Labour Development has announced that government will not charge money on passports and travel tickets  for youth who are taken to work abroad.

The Permanent Secretary (PS) Pius Bigirimana on Thursday while addressing the press at media center.

“From today onward, youths going abroad through a licensed company will not need to pay to get their passport or travel tickets or medical checkup fees. If the company asks for this money, please report them to us,” Bigirimana said.

He also revealed that his ministry has signed bilateral agreements with Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and soon United Arab Emirates to allow better monitoring of Ugandans working there, there working conditions and remuneration.

Meanwhile, the ministry wants the companies to give pre-departure orientation to the youths on important rules and laws in the countries they are going such as alcohol and drug use, to avoid falling in trouble.

65 companies have been allowed to take Ugandans to work abroad.
