SGS Automotive Uganda has announced recruitment to a tune of 200 workers, in addition to the already occupied 100 jobs at their current motor inspection station in Kawanda along Bombo Road, announced Susan Nava, the Communications Manager.
Talking to journalists last week, Nava said this is done in fulfilment of their promise to create job opportunities for Ugandans and to provide them with the right training in standard international best practices that will enable them become best-in-class in their profession.
Following an international tender process, Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport on March 17th 2015, awarded SGS Automotive, an exclusive contract to design, implement and perform roadworthiness inspections nationwide.
SGS was also tasked to ensure that all vehicles on Ugandan roads were subjected to safety and emission inspections and issued roadworthiness stickers.
The world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and Certification Company, SGS Automotive started inspection exercise in November last year, in a mandatory exercise campaign branded ‘Safe Drive Uganda’ and has been ongoing.
“Right now we have only one operational inspection station,” explains Susan Nava, the Communications Manager for SGS Automotive. “But by June we will have over 300 employees working at Kawanda, Namanve, Nabbingo and Namulanda inspection stations and at the two mobile stations at Mandela National Stadium.”
She said among the available opportunities are first aiders, fire marshals, customer service officers, inspection technicians, security personnel, other support stuff plus the team at their Head Office along Kira Road, Kamwokya.
Currently, the Kawanda Inspection Centre has the capacity to test 200 vehicles in a single day. An additional three stations will be constructed in Gulu, Mbale and Mbarara.
