EXCLUSIVE: Why Odrek Rwabwogo keeps attacking EC

One of the highlights of 2016 was a cyber exchange between President Yoweri Museveni’s son in-law Odrek Rwabwogo and outspoken ex security operative Charles Rwomushana.

The two swapped a tirade of political bombshells using social media platform Facebook as Rwabwogo defended the regime and the first family while Rwomushana ripped both apart.

Rwabwogo, 46, is married to Patience Museveni Rwabwogo  a pastor of Covenant Nations Church located in Buziga, an upscale suburb of Kampala.

In one of his responses to Rwomushana, Rwabwogo alleged that he is aware of senior FDC officials who have running contracts with Electoral Commission (EC).

“Is he a member of contracts committee, does he hold  any position in EC, which docket does he occupy here,” wondered a top officials at EC who preferred to comment on conditions of anonymity.

In 2015 EC advertised through procurement department for firms and individuals to conduct voter’s education for 2016 general elections and using his consultancy company TERP, Odrek Rwabwogo was among the bidders.

Though Rwabwogo is an entrepreneur like any other Ugandan, his bid would however raise questions among the public because of his relationship with the first family and his closeness  Pesident Yoweri Museveni.

“Already EC had been criticized for being biased and serving the regime’s interests, Rwambwogo’s involvement however genuine could give members of the opposition chance to condemn EC more,” a senior official added.

Rwabwogo, nevertheless lost the bid after an evaluation was established through Contracts Committee because TERP lacked qualifications Very rubbed he vowed to take on EC and subsequently petitioned Public Procurement and Disposal Authority (PPDA).

“Because EC had to prepare response to this petition the Commission ended up running out of time to carryout voter’s education and the funds for this exercise were blocked. This almost cost EC,” a source said.

Although EC responded accordingly to his petition in PPDA, Rwabwogo was unconvinced as to why lost the bid and up to tode he still holds grudges. A staff at EC who asked not to be named told TrumpetNews that Rwabwogo often calls top officials at EC and engages them in protracted argument. “That he will fight  EC using all means,” a staff said.

Efforts to get Rwabwogo’s comment were unsuccessful as he didn’t answer our call.
