Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga requested the ruling party to entrust her with the office for more 5 years to seal her 10 year tenure just liker her predecessor Edward Ssekandi.
But in a shocking and unprecedented twist of events, Kadaga dared those eyeing her seat to prove beyond doubt if she has ever asked her party to offer her 10 years.
Her closest challenger Mr Jacob Oulanyah earlier this year indicated that Kadaga would mince her words should she contest for the office of Speaker even when her time has ended.
The soft spoken Oulanyah wondered what legacy old politicians are planting when they keep denying their words.
This is after Kadaga asked him to bring an agreement where she signed that she would vacate office after serving from 2016 to 2021.
But in a video extracted from the archives, recorded by NTV in 2016, Kadaga told the reporter Agnes Nandutu NRM should look into her request and offer her more five years to complete the full 10 years.
“I think that the party should also be consistent, they were able to give my predecessor ten years. They should not change the rules because it’s me. They should also be consistent,” Kadaga said in the interview.
Kadaga has served in government for 32 years, 10 years speaker and 10 as deputy speaker.
