Police detectives conducting a search inside National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters after a surprise invasion on Wednesday have recovered hundreds of yellow tshirts bearing President Museveni’s photo which were hidden in one of the rooms of the facility.
Police has since labelled the offices of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine a scene of crime.
In unannounced move, the army together with police cordoned of the NUP offices in Kamwokya and further deployed heavily considering the notoriety of this suburb, a self proclaimed ghetto, the stronghold of Mr Kyagulanyi.
Police detectives broke into the offices and immediately began conducting a search.
Several kits containing red beret and other campaigning materials were confiscated.
Whereas the reason for the raid was unclear, it later emerged that Government last year designated the red beret as an official military wear that could land members of the public who wear them in jail.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga later said the raid was aimed at targeting all locations illegally manufacturing, supplying, distributing, selling and using uniforms and accoutrements whose ownership and patented designs was gazetted and an exclusive preserve of the armed forces.
However, security was surprised to recover more kits containing NRM/ Museveni’s tshirts hidden in some of the rooms.
A security source said, some of the NUP officials have been wearing these t-shirts and disguise as NRM supporters before committing crimes.
