UPDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has come out to explain why he previously referred to UPDF as “my soldiers” which has triggered questions why personalizes the country’s army.
To the newly promoted 4-star General, any commander in the force must have an attachment with his junior officer and that is the reason he branded those under his command as “my army.”
Until last week, Muhoozi was the Commander of Land Forces, a unit which comprises majority of the soldiers in the UPDF.
“Some people were asking but why are you calling them my soldiers? Yet they are for Uganda,” Muhoozi said on Monday at SKYZ as he shared dinner with his supporters at an event organized by Team Chairman- MK project headed by Michael Nuwagira alias Toyota.
He said a commander is like a father, “can a father say these are children of the home? or he says my children.”
Muhoozi vowed to shift the same passion to the youth of Uganda being his area of concentration since he is no longer in command.
“If I am given opportunity, it is that passion that I will transfer to the youth of Uganda,” he said.
Earlier at Bombo grounds Muhoozi assured his supporters that he will be available for them, unlike in the past when he was occupied with the army business.
He Muhoozi thanked his father who is the Commander in Chief (CiC) for the promotion.
Justifying the promotion last week, Gen Yoweri Museveni said whereas Muhoozi had erred by tweeting about Kenya, he still trusted his capabilities as a soldier who will do more useful things in future.
