Former Ethics and Integrity Minister Miria Matembe has thrown a spanner in the works saying opposition icon Kizza Besigye has no audacity to query President Yoweri Kaguta’s over stay in power.
Matembe said as long as Besigye remains the Alpha and Omega of the oppostion political faction, then he is not different from his opponent whom he failed to remove from the country’s leadership after four unsuccessful attempts.
The belligerent women rights activist wondered why the FDC founder has crushed every emerging vibrant voice in the opposition.
“I oppose the government of this country but these violent ways don’t work. As long as opposition can’t have another leader apart from Besigye, you are all the same as Museveni. Go and diverse proper new strategies which can help you,” Matembe advised.
She was appearing on Local television NBS on Thursday night to assess the current political and security affairs in the country.
Along side other panelists; The government spokesman Ofwono Opondo, police publicist Emilian Kayima, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Charles Rwomushana a political pundit, Matembe said as long as Besigye stays in “opposition power” Ugandans will always look at Museveni as the best alternative despite claims of derailing the country.
Matembe directed the outbursts to Lukwago, a close and loyal ally of Besigye who seemed overwhelmed by her statements
Lukwago instead defended his superior asking Matembe to mention any victim of Besigye’s frustrations.
“Which person claims to be fought by Besigye? And has Besigye stopped anyone from becoming an opposition leader?” He questioned. Adding: “no no no no this is not true.”
Some of Besigye’s sympthisers would later take to social media pages to aver that Matembe was looking for ways of settling her old scores with Dr. Besigye.
It must be remembered that in 2015 while the country prepared for a general election, a group of opposition leaders, civil society activists and religious heads formed a bloc dubbed The Democratic Alliance (TDA) with a target of choosing a sole oppostion candidate.
However the umbrella crashed after FDC pulled out claiming it learnt of a ploy to sideline it’s candidate Besigye who wielded majority support across the country.
The FDC accused TDA architects of favouring Hon Amama Mbabazi who didn’t constitute 1% of Besigye’s support.
Matembe was among those who marginalised Besigye saying Ugandans wanted a new face to take on Museveni.
