The FDC top brass will not rest until the founding leader Kizza Besigye accepts to take on his long time political nemesis President Yoweri Museveni in the next general elections.
The FDC leadership will not hold internal elections should Besigye agree to offer himself as Presidential Candidate.
FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat has said the FDC top shots have stepped their efforts to push the man from Rwakabengo to the ballot in 2021.
The party is facing a huge political crisis following Besigye’s announcement that he will not be participating in the coming elections because the ballot will not cause in Uganda.
He believes it is wasted energies to participate in a process which is organized by the regime and its agencies like the Electoral Commission whose leadership is selected by Museveni and approved by Parliament of Uganda.
“We shall hold nominations and elections for presidential flag bearer of FDC. If Kizza Besigye offers himself as a candidate then there will be no election, that’s the position of the party’s top organ,” FDC Amuriat.
Amuriat said FDC will not allow Museveni to have a free ride in the next polls.
Besigye has been Museveni’s powerful opponent during his time as President of Uganda.
But over time, Kizza Besigye has come under fire to pave way for new opposition leader in Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine since the former bush war hero has failed to oust his adversary for four times.
