Special Forces Command (SFC), has stepped up President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s security amid a simmering fallout between him and his Rwandan counterpart.
Museveni has openly accused Kagame and his agents of trying to destabilize Uganda government.
In a renewed scrutiny of his security, the President has since dropped his civilian driver who has chauffeured him over the years and acquired a heavily armed commando chauffeur.
In the recent functions Museveni has attended, the mean-looking driver clad in army uniform is always seen monitoring his boss’ movements.
Unlike the previous civilian driver whose role was to only drive, the new driver carries the gun around his neck, monitors his boss’ movements and chauffeurs him.
This new commando driver carries an ultra-compact MPX Copperhead- super small submachine gun, a new weapon on market made by the Americans.
Unlike other submachine guns, the MPX copperhead releases bullets rapidly in case of an attack.
Inner Ring
The tendency in guarding the president has always been that apart from the combatants escorting him while others camped a few meters from where Museveni is, he is usually surrounded by highly trained SFC commandos who are always dressed in suits.
Besides his two bodyguards there is a group of 4 commandos that are normally facing the audience whenever he is making an address.
It’s a group that blocks whoever tries to penetrate and access the President.
But accordingly, our reporter observed that the inner ring has been enhanced into a rectangle form.
Every security apparatus has its own formation. America’s Secret Service has Ring of Steel, Rwanda’s has Semi Circle and SFC had Inner Square Ring.
But it has since been expanded into a rectangle.
It remains unknown why Museveni made changes in his security.
When contacted no official both in SFC and State House was willing to comment on the matter.
The SFC is an elite unit of UPDF tasked to protect the First Family and key strategic arears in the country.
It is commanded by Maj. Gen. Don Nabasa who recently expressed dismay that a foreign country was planning to topple Museveni’s government.
