Opposition kingpin Col Kizza Besigye who has staged a 20 year struggle to unseat President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been elected to lead the new opposition campaign “Red Card.”
Several opposition political organisations convened on Thursday to unveil the pressure group called People’s Front for Transition with slogans “Twetase”, “Red Card.”
The group’s founders say it seeks to capture power through peaceful means.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Kizza Besigye, the Chairperson of the pressure group said that they are giving themselves only three weeks to consult all stakeholders on their mission before implementing their plan, a Grand Resetting of the country.
Besigye said that in this case, they will be consulting the common man, who they believe has suffered under the current regime. The stakeholders include Market traders, boda boda riders, etc.
Other members of the front said it is working together is the only way the opposition will achieve their goals.
The National Unity Platform led by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi did not attend the launch.
“The People’s Front for Transition is a non-violent struggle. But as we all know, those who we oppose, violence is their means of survival. That why they kill people. You have never seen me throwing a stone but I have wounds,” Besigye said.
“The People’s Front for Transition is a platform for action. We have talked enough. 3 weeks from now, we will call people to action – Dr Kizza Besigye, People’s Front for Transition,” he added.
He said, “Twetase” is this new movement’s clarion call which will rally together to protest against any form of injustice.
“Our symbol is the red card – Dr Kizza Besigye, People’s Front for Transition.”
