Ugandan long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has broken long-standing world record- the 10000m in Valencia, Spain on Wednesday night.
Cheptegei set the new record after covering the distance in 26 minutes and 11 seconds and thus erasing Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele’s 26 minutes and 17 seconds, a record that has existed for 15 years.
Cheptegei is now the fastest man in the world.
In August he also clinched another 5000m record in Monaco, France.
Speaking shortly after his victory in Turia Stadium, Cheptegei said “I want to write history and also give sports lovers value for their time.”
He argued people around the world to adhere to COVID guidelines as the only way to defeat the virus so that the planet returns to normal.
