Another Powerful MTN Official Heading Mobile Money Deported

Elsa Muzzolini

Ms Elsa Muzzolini was deported after spending almost 4 hours being questioned by police authorities. She is accused of inciting violence.

This was shortly after two other MTN Employees, Annie Tabura and Olivier Prentout were also arrested and deported on cases of threatening national security.

Ms Muzzolini and Anthony Katamba, the general Manger Corporate services and chief legal counsel were summoned to appear before the Special Investigations Division (SID)   and this resulted to Muzzolini being deported nevertheless, Katamba’s fate is still indistinct.

Though details of the allegation are not yet clear, Police Spokes Person, Fred Enanga confirmed Ms Muzzolini’s deportation to Italy

Mr Enanga added saying, “Investigations are still ongoing on why they participated in incitement to violence. The SID has several leads that they are following in this case.”

MTN has been under investigation since last year July 2018 when ISO made an abrupt raid at their data centre in Mutundwe and switched off four servers. Security personnel raided the data centre in the night and forced the Data Centre manager Moses Keefah Musasizi out as they proceeded with their search.

MTN then wrote to the to the Executive Director Uganda Communication Commission Godfrey Mutabazi, claiming that the raid was illegal and they had not been served with a search warrant.
