Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has again issued a stinging rebuke to FDC top shots who are dying to see their fellow member Abdu Katuntu relinquish COSASE seat as chairman.
Kadaga said there was no need to politicize the one-month extension COSASE’s term after its tenure expired on January 13, 2018.
Appearing on Namirembe FM on Monday evening to review the work of the 10th Parliament which she presides over, the belligerent Speaker said those opposed to Katuntu and his committee are envious of what COSASE has done.
“People are excited because this Committee has done a commendable job, it is visible and now, everyone wants it. Ssemujju [Nganda] was once a Chairperson of COSASE, did you ever hear about COSASE? Amuriat [Patrick] was also a Chairperson of COSASE, did you ever hear about it? It is only this COSASE that has been prominent, that is why people are excited, but the current team has to complete their probe, give us a report and we later put in place another team,” the Speaker wondered.
A few days ago, a standoff engulfed parliament after it emerged that Kadaga had advised that COSASE be offered an extension of one month to complete its report on Bank of Uganda probe.
The probe was premised on the Central Banks role in closing 7 commercial bank including Crane Bank which was sold off to DFCU in 2017.
Kadaga however faced hostility from FDC with its top officials accusing the speaker of dictatorship.
FDC reasoned that, its new appointees, Mubaraka Munyagwa and Moses Kasibante should be allowed to occupy the new positions.
