Uganda Police has reassured of safety after fake terror alerts made rounds on internet on Sunday night, creating panic and fear among members of the public.

Police said such alerts give credit and publicity to the terrorists.

The security agency further warned members of the public against dire consequences should they insist on circulating such venomous information on social media

Over the weekend a fake message warned of a looming terror attack on Uganda following the explosion and heavy gunfire in a leafy Nairobi street- Riverside after Somali militant group Al-Shabaab invaded a complex building which houses a hotel- Dusti and killed tens of civilians.

The Kenyan security swung in action and put out all the terrorists.

Addressing a weekly news conference at Central Police Station in Kampala (CPS) the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said, “the country has no specific threats, although the police and sister security agencies continue to actively monitor and share information with the regional counterparts,” Enanga said adding that there is no section of the public under increased scrutiny as alleged in the fake terror alert.”

He added: “The police will only release information, including terror alerts upon accurate and honest acknowledgement of any real threats.”
