Adikot Juliet, a former aide of Justine Bagyenda at a time she served as Bank of Uganda executive director in charge of supervision on Wednesday told Parliament that her ex boss is in the country.
Adikot made the revelation while appearing before
Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) which has been interrogating the controversial shutdown of seven commercial banks by the Central Bank as reported by the Auditor General in his 80page report.
COSASE chaired Hon Abdu Katuntu had earlier summoned Ms Bagyenda to explain her supervisory role in closure of the seven commercial institutions but having appeared only twice, she notified the committee of her imminent trip which she had initiated before receiving summons.
The committee was pushed to summon Ms Bagyenda after Central Bank official Benidict Sekabira who at a time worked under her confessed for having given her vital documents related to closure of the banks.
The documents included among others inventories of the banks’ assets and liabilities.
A section of members of the committee who felt undermined by Ms Bagyenda while she took a bold step to leave the country called for her arrest.
Whereas it was believed Bagyenda was in the U.S, her fromer ADC Adikot has thrown the spanner in the works.
The latest development comes high on heels of a confession made on Tuesday by Bank of Uganda head of security Milton Opio that CCTV recorded Bagyenda retrieving bag of documents from the Central Bank.
This website had previously reported how BoU staff have a CCTV footage of Bagyenda extracting files.
