There is trouble and panic at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda following the leakage of Edith Kasekende’s multibillions account. Edith Kasekende, who is wife of Deputy Bank of Uganda Governor Louis Kasekende, was last week exposed as a very wealthy woman, who runs an Easy Go account number 0100111660500 at Stanchart bank, on which receives hundreds of millions of shillings annually. Her bank statement indicates that between 01-05-2017 and 17-05-2018 she received another Shs6447m from an unknown source and Shs421m from Bank of Uganda.
Between the same date she deposited Shs415m and Shs383M respectively, and another Shs120m and Shs394m, although the source of this money remains unknown. However, after the leakage of Edith’s bank accounts, Stanchart Bank has come out and denied having such an account in Edith Kasekende’s name. The bank on October 19th, 2018 issued a statement refuting the Edith’s bank statement and branding it fictitious. However, in their Statement, Stachart bank does not deny having a client called Edith Kasekende.
They claim that the Statement didn’t originate from their bank, although the same statement bears a logo for EBBS (electronic Bank Balance System) a system used to check someone’s account balance, which Stanchart uses for its clients. The statement of Edith Kasekende’s account also indicate the debiting and crediting transaction that have been done on her account for the year 2017, meaning the account exists.
