City residents and pedestrians along Christ the King Church in Kampala city were this afternoon left in shock when over 5 gun welding men aboard a commuter taxi waylaid, kidnapped and forcefully dragged an unidentified middle aged man in broad day light before speeding off towards Kampala road.
The arrest that was captured on video that is doing rounds on social media has many shock because of the gruesome manner in which it was executed.
The gun totting gentlemen besides battering their wailing victim, also shoved gun butts in his ribs besides kicking and dragging him on the tarmac
Traumatised pedestrians who watched the melee in shock exclaimed with fear wondering what crime the man had committed.
“These arbitrary arrests are scary. I wonder what crime that man had committed to be treated in such a manner. Are we back to the Amin days? We are no longer safe if our rights as humans are defaced” said Andrew Kayongo who witnessed the arrest.
When contacted for a comment, deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango was non-committal. He said “I need to cross-check. It will however be difficult to identify who these men were since they were in civilian clothes”
The arrest comes on the heels of allegations by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi that he was tortured while in custody together with his Mityana Municipality counterpart, Francis Zaake who was later hospitalised in India over the torture ordeal.
Along the same line, last week Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire warned Police and other organs that they would fit the bill demanded by torture victims who petition courts and other human rights bodies where they are awarded huge compensations rewards.
