As ‘Free Bobi Wine’ Wave Rages, Military takes over Police

Military deployed heavily in Kampala

The downtown part of Kampala city has Monday become a battle ground pitting supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine against armed police men.

Police swung in action to quell riots which had paralysed business with rioters blocking roads, erecting bonfires in most parts of downtown, chanting ‘People Power’ slogans and singing Bobi Wine’s anti-regime songs.

This compelled police to fire live bullets and volleys of teargas to disperse the surging sea of protesters.

Whereas, police seemed to have taken charge, the army later deployed heavily in the city including Central Police Station offices.

These combatants were pictured and filmed ransacking buildings and engaging those suspected to have led the protests.

Volleys of teargas were fired in the city buildings

A wave of similar protests broke out earlier in the neighbouring towns of Kampala as supporters demanded release of Bobi Wine who remains detained at Makindye army barracks to date.

The army accuses him of possessing military weapon and has since been tried in the Court Martial in Gulu.
