The Uganda Police Force has issued criminal summons for former Kampala Regional Police Commander ACP Siraje Bakelele, and three of his colleagues.
The others summoned are Isaac Munezero, officer in-charge of crime intelligence at Katwe Police Station, George Kayongo, Kenneth Zirintusa and Patrick Ochen.
According to the summons issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Criminal Investigations Boss, John Olal, the four officers face criminal charges and have been asked by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to appear in court and face charges of robbery and kidnap among other crimes.
According to sources at KMP CID, files related to their activities while on duty were sent to the DPP’s office to consider whether they were culpable for allegations levelled against them, line them for trial and prosecution.
The summons against the four are the latest in IGP Martin Okoth Ochola’s re-aligned police force that is on an image-building campaign after all the reported dirty acts under the administration of former IGP Kale Kayihura, who is also detained at Makindye Military Barracks, for yet to be named charges.
SSP Olal who issued the summons said the officers had previously ignored past summons calling them mere ‘rumors’ and warned that they risked arrest if they defied the latest callings.
The Police Force has since the appointment of Martin Okoth Ochola arrested all officers who were reported for going against their duties of protecting the public and keeping the law, instead engaging in illegal activities.
Some of other officers already detained include Nixon Agasirwe, Nduhura Atwooki, Boda Boda 200o boss Kitatta, while Kale Kayihura’s former aide who is also wanted, Jonathan Baroza, is on the run as a massive man-hunt for him escalates.
