Besigye: How can Police which Tortured, Arrested me; Now Protect me?

Besigye has a number of times been arrested

Col. Kiiza Besigye has rejected security guards provided to him by the Uganda police following threats that he will be assassinated very soon.

Besigye, is among few state opponents whose name appeared on the hit list of the yet to be known assailant killers.

Following information of the social media alleging that Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago could be killed, Uganda police has since proposed to beef up their security.

But on Thursday the opposition strongman who has countless times battled police operatives, took to social media platform, Twitter, to deny police’s extra protection.

Besigye says that instead he needs protection against his oppressors.

‘‘ Uganda Police has illegally detained me, fabricated uncountable cases against me, shot &injured me, tortured me, robbed me, brutalised and killed my supporters,” Besigye posted.

He assured Uganda police that he only God can protect him.

“….I need protection against them not from them! God is my protecto.”

However, his long time associate Lukwago raised alarm after the rumour circulated on facebook asking police to provide him with extra guards.

Over the years, several government top officials have been assassinated the latest being Arua Municipality Ibrahim Abiriga who was last month gunned down as he returned home in Kawanda, Wakiso Disrict.
