State minister for Internal Affairs, Mario Obiga Kania, Jovah Kamateeka, Mitooma Woman MP and Connie Galiwango, Mbale Woman MP on Thursday morning suffered a torrid experience in the hands of mean-looking security commandos of Janet Kataaha Museveni.
Education minister, First Lady Janet Museveni was scheduled to receive a petition on ending sexual violence against girls in Uganda alongside Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga. The petition was presented by young girls under umbrella Girls’ Rights Clubs from districts of Kamuli, Buyende and Tororo.
Before the function kicked off, security was heightened at the entrance of the Parliamentary Conference Hall where everyone accessing the venue was thoroughly searched.
The security detail was so heavy that a couple of guests were so much inconvenienced and decided to shun the event.
Among those who were highly inconvenienced was Minister Obiga Kania, also Terego East MP, MPs Jovah Kamateeka and Connie Galiwango.
Being a prominent member of Uganda Women Parliamentarians Association (UWOPA), Kamateeka was slated to take a front seat at the function.
However, when she reached the entrance, Janet’s commandos had taken over the mandate of the Parliament police and demanded that everyone including MPs were accredited to attend the function and above all hand over their phones to security. This irked Kamateeka making her to walk away from the event.
“I have not come to attend First Lady’s function. I have come to attend the Speaker’s function because she is the one who invited me,” Kamateeka said before jeering and walking away never to return again.
