President Museveni has in an authoritative tone assured Ugandans that insecurity will be dealt with and will soon end. The President while addressing Parliament on the state of security in the country said they had dealt with worse worse security situations that threatened to tear the nation apart, like rebel groups, who they kicked out.
“I can assure you, we put an end to these rebels like Joseph Kony in the North, the ADF in the Rwenzoris. We will defeat all these criminals who think they can distabilise our country using guns” the President said.
Outlining over 8 areas that had been identified as the start point to end crime and security, the President said there were in advanced strategic plans to secure the country and rid it of all forms of security instabilities
Social media is being abused
Museveni said Ugandans were misusing social media and the platform had been identified as one being used by criminal gangs to commit crimes.
“The other insecurity Uganda is facing is the misuse of social media. Criminals use this platform to spread harmful messages and fear. We will work out a way of arresting all those doing that” the President said
Museveni said they will not close down social media sites, but they will track down and arrest those found misusing the platforms.
Technology is key
In his speech about ending insecurity, President Museveni said the army and police will be equipped with the best security portfolio available to enable them easily search, investigate and zero down on criminality.
“I have ordered the deployment of of 21 UAV’s (Unmanned Air Vehicles). These will help swift trace dangerous spots and mark individuals involved. We will also install security cameras on all streets and major highways” Museveni said

Spending over 20 minutes talking about the history of Uganda, Museveni told Members of Parliament he had to educate them about Uganda’s history since they spent most of their time abroad and cared less to learn about their country
” I am telling you all this history because you spend most of your time traveling to Europe and care less about knowing much about your country. Now, let me teach you this country’s history” the President said causing uncontrolled laughter on the house floor.
Peace and security will prevail
Attracting cheers from mostly NRM leaning MPs, the President closed off his speech with a stern “We will secure this nation and ensure every Ugandan is safe. We will crash all these criminals” warning.
The President said the professionalization of the army, improvement in training and work methods for the security forces plus other strategic security measures will provide peace in the long term.
