Opposition leader Col Kizza Besigye has observed that a ‘new start’ is necessary in the security system to be able to curb the spiraling criminality in the country.

Besigye while mourning the tragic death of Arua Municipality Ibrahim Abiriga said the security system is in a dysfunctional mod.

The FDC strongman took to his twitter page, “TRAGIC! Uganda’s insecurity affects upper &bottom rungs of society equally &brutally! Security systems are clearly dysfunctional. A new start necessary.

My thoughts &prayers go to Hon Abiriga’s family, relatives &friends.”

The nation learnt with shock the gruesome murder of the NRM legislator on Friday evening who as he was shot by unidentified men on a motorcycle as he returned home in Kawanda, Wakiso District.

An eyewitness said that two men putting on masks intercepted his car and showered it with bullets which left Abiriga and his bodyguard dead.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate there was a third occupant who also died.

But Kampala Metroplolitan Police (KMP) spokesman Luke Oweyesigire said they were only two who died.

Abiriga, was staunch NRM supporter who spearheaded the removal of Presidential Age Limit.
