President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday met with officials from electricity distributor, Umeme at State House, Entebbe.

Museveni and the four officials led by Umeme Board Chairperson, Mr Patrick Bitature discussed the increasing power tariffs levied by the power distributor.

Other members included the company’s managing director Mr Selestino Babungi, one of the board members Gerald Ssendaula and the Chief Operation Officer Ms Florence Nsubuga.

Umeme officials agreed to revisit its proposed power tariffs and subsequently reduce them as recommended by the President.

Museveni, mid this month wrote to the Minister of Energy Irene Muloni cancelling the extension of Umeme’s concession connivance of the Ministry’s officials and Umeme investors to cheat Ugandans.

He wondered whether the Ministry can’t source another company that could operate within the means of Ugandans.

He demanded for answers on why consumers are still paying high rates for electricity.

Officials who attended the meeting promised to divulge more details in the media on Friday.
