John Fitzerland Magara, on Wednesday told mourners a heartbreaking story of his daughter’s agonising battle with kidnappers who would later end her life.
Magara last saw Susan Magara on February 7, and the next he heard were kidnappers who frequently called his wife negotiating a ransom.
“I later asked my wife that let me take charge. I knew these were cheap criminals who only wanted money,” he told Mourners at Mbuya Catholic Church as he eulogised his departed child.
The 28 year old was overseeing family business in Lungujja as an administrator.
John Magara accompanied by his wife sobbed in pain while narrating the painful moment after receiving a video clip from killers as they tortured his daughter before cutting off her fingers.
“They sent us audio, video and the fingers. I handed over them to police,” he said.
Initially, the captors demanded shs 3b but would later settle for shs 720m cash which was delivered to them and promised to release Susan who was described as jolly and ever happy, tomorrow (Thursday).
“But on Monday I got a phone call that a body was discovered near Entebbe express Highway with fingers missing,” he said.
He told the congregation that he knew his daughter was no more, “I told my wife that our child has been killed.”
Indeed, the body turned out to be Susan’s who will be laid to rest Thursday at the native home in Hoima.
Cindy, Susan’s eldest sister in her speech read by her husband expressed distress in government for failing to implement policies; The killers used many of unregistered numbers to hide identity yet government directed all Telecom companies to switch off all unregistered numbers.
One of the uncles confirmed delivering shs 720m ransom to save Susan’s life, he said it was unfortunate all efforts were futile and the rogue kidnappers ended her life at 28.
