FDC presidential candidate Col Kizza Besigye has been awarded shs 80 million as costs having won a case he filed against Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) for not airing his 2011 election adverts.
Besigye through his lawyer Earnest Kalibala rushed to Court after the election which he lost failing an application against the State Broadcaster for breach of contract even after paying shs 21 million.
7 years later, Court presided over by Justice Margaret Ogulion Monday awarded Besigye Shs80 million in costs and damages.
During the hearing of the case, Besigye asked UBC to refund his Shs21 million. He told court the media house failed to refunded his cash after several attempts well knowing it had violated the agreement.
Among other redresses, Besigye also sought an injunction barring UBC as a national broadcaster from discriminating against people depending on their political affiliations.
According to the suit filed against UBC and it’s the former Managing Director Edward Musinguzi, the company received Shs21 million from Besigye’s media agent, Big Ideas, to run over 200 spot messages for his 2011 presidential campaigns but none was run.
