Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has Monday charged and remanded Boda Boda 2010 patron Abdullah Kitatta to Kigo Prison.
The development comes a little less than 6 hours after Police announced that 8 suspects including Kitatta’s young brother Huzair Kiwalabye would face murder and aggravated robbery charges.
In the statement, Police publicist Emilian Kayima stated that however Kitatta wasn’t among those facing the charges.
The Investigator, an online publication would later report Kitatta a vigilante-cum- gangster along along with other 5 suspects were arraigned before Unit Disciplinary Court (UDC).
“Kitatta and his lieutenants, most of them Stage Chairmen for the now semi- defunct Boda-boda 2010 around the City, were aligned before the Military Court chaired by Col. Kayemba and were charged with several offenses related to obstructing lawful arrests as well as destruction of Military equipment, reportedly on Kitatta’s orders,” reported The Investigator.
UPDF deputy spokesman Deo Akiki confirmed that indeed Kitatta has been remanded to Kigo Prison.
“Yes it’s true. We are sending a statement,” he said.
Kitatta is a known close ally of Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura.
Days before his arrests Kayihura appeared before MPs and defended Kitatta’s shenanigans saying Boda Boda 2010 is a legal entity and it’s operations are lawful.
Kayihura since the arrest of Kitatta is yet to make any statement.
“Kitatta is also charged with illegal possession of military reserves contained in a pistol and an SMG riffle. It is believed that the same guns were used to commit several crimes around the city and the country at large,” The Investigator added.
Kitatta will reappear before CMI after two weeks.
He is accused of plotting the grisly murder of Francis Ekalungar, an accountant of Case Clinic whose body was burned beyond recognition.
