Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Sam Kutesa held a meeting with US Ambassador Debra Malac at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 18.
The two discussed regional and bilateral issues related to peace, security and development as well as a number of on-going activities in the Uganda-US relations that will be followed up in the course of the year and the upcoming AU Summit in Addis Ababa, AGOA and the Consular docket.
Amb. Malac emphasized the commitment the United States continues to have towards Uganda and the United States’ “continued respect for the long and shared history between the United States and Africa.”
The meeting follows U.S President Donald Trump’s derogatory remarks describing African Nations as ‘shithole’ countries.
His speech aroused diplomatic backlash around the word prompting 78 former envoys who represented U.S in 48 African nations to issue a dossier expressing their discontent over Trump’s ‘hate speech.’
