Defiant Lwanga says Museveni is fighting the truth

Cyprian Lwanga

Kampala archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has in a veild response said that the clergy will not be silenced and intimidated because the church is the “conscious of the State.”

On Tuesday Lwanga a known controversial Church Leader went against the odds and said that the remarks made by the Men of God are ‘simply the truth.’

This was duiring the send-off of retired Anglican Archibishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo at Namugongo Shrine.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni while addressing Ugandans on News Year’s Eve in a live broadcast at his upcountry home in Rwakitura, Western Uganda, described clerics who interfere in politics as “traitors.”

Museveni’s comments came after a number of influential religious leaders vehemently denounced the plan by NRM party to review the constitution and scrap the age limit by circumventing calls from Ugandans not to.

And last month majority MPs voted to amend article 102 (b) and on 27th same month the President signed the age limit bill into a law becoming a constitution ammendment act.

This new law enables Museveni to contest for 14 more years despite clocking 75 years of age.

“The truth between the church and politics is that the churches are not enemies of the state. The remarks we make are none other than those telling the truth because the church is the conscience of the State. Politics, faith and reason need one another,” Lwanga stated

He said the current attacks on the Church by politicians are a repeat of what happened in the 80’s.

“People are fighting against the truth with fury. Some individuals are turning current affairs into a personal project. This isn’t right for national unity, peace building,” Lwanga added, appealing to Government to listen to voices of reason for purposes of promoting peace, justice and stability,” he added.
