Former Health Minister Dr. James Makumbi has passed on early Monday morning.
Makumbi, 78, died in his sleep at his retirement home in Kayunga District, according to a relative.
Makumbi who served as Minister of Health in President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government and also appointed the UPDF chief of medical services has been healthy, a relative adds.
He also worked as President’s advisor on health matters.
Makumbi represented Baale county as Member of Parliament, tried to regain the seat in 2001 but lost to Sulaiman Madada.
Makumbi hit the headlines in 1995 when he was kidnapped by rebels led by UPDF renegade Maj. Herbert Itongwa on Gayaza Road near Kasangati.
