Police has arrested two of its officers who allegedly aided socialite Brian White  Kirumira with an illegal gun that was used to shoot Victor Bitwire in Buziga, an upscale surburb of Kampala in early hours of Monday morning.

Kirumira alias Brian White has since been detained at Kabalagala police station while waiting to be charged with attempted murder.

Bitwire, 49, a brother in-law to oppositon leader Col Kizza Besigye was rushed to IHK hospital where he lays in coma as he receives treatment.

Our source in police last night divulged on condition of anonymity that detectives handling the case have been probing the source of the gun and have since established that he acquired it illegally from cops who were guarding him.

“Brian White has been guarded by 5 officers who were reportedly deployed by Regional Police Commander (RPC) Kampala South ,Siraje Bakaleke,” the source said.

A source added that the identities of detained cops weren’t exposed.

We are told Bakaleke did so without his superior’s authorization.

This news website had earlier reported how Police Standards Unit (PSU) had summoned Bakaleke over this same matter.

Whereas initial reports suggested that Brian White shot an intruder, this website established that this was false, Bitwire and a colleague live in the socialite’s neighbourhood and were passing by the pompous ‘tycoon’s’ gate when they were intercepted.

Contacted to substantiate on the matter, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesman Luke Oweyesigire denied the the officers guarding Brian White were arrested.

On how Brian White acquired the gun, Luke added that, “we are investigating the whole process.”

Police awaits for Bitwire to regain consciousness so that he can be able to give his account as Brian White remains in custody.

This website is following up this story and will continue to give updates on the story as they unfold.
