Fresh details emerging from City Hall indicate that Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director (ED) Jennifer Musisi released 100000 US dollars (shs 360 million) to have Tanzanian music star Diamond Platinumz perform at a charity show last Friday.
Unlike previous reports which indicated that Diamond pocketed shs 40000 US dollars (shs 144 million), the latest development is a shocker to not only Musisi but Uganda’s music industry where local musicians were paid a paltry shs 20 million.
Most indigenous artistes who are deemed to be big -Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon, Bobi Wine, Juliana, Radio and Weasel didn’t perform at this charity concert which turned to be a flop.
This Website understands that organisers of this concert prior to the main city carnival fete “conned” Musisi how singer Diamond had demanded $100k.
“These organisers went through KCCA deputy spokesman Robert Kalumba who convinced his boss. Because Musisi believes in him she gave him green light to have the MAMA award winner perform in Kampala,” a source at City Hall said.
After negotiating a deal with Diamond who would later charge $40k the ‘mafia’ shared $60k.
We are told that Musisi would later learn of the bogus deal after several complaints raised by the public following a boring show.
“Because of the hype eveyone expected a thrilling performance as earlier promised. But it was a shocker. The sound, the lighting, generally everything was up to standard,” an official at KCCA wondered.
Musisi is up in arms questioning whoever was in charge to account for the massive expenditure.
When we contacted Kalumba to verify this information he said it was all “okay.”
KCCA has been on the spot for sidelining local musicians and paying hefty sums of money to foreign stars.
This comes after governemnt sanctioned a policy of buy Uganda, sell Uganda.
