Fiery ex-UPDF commander Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has responded to his critics who have overtime increasingly blamed his “laid-back” leadership style to FDC’s failure to make political impact.
Gen. Muntu shot back at his critics by likening himself to a skilled rally champion driving a car with too many mechanical issues.
Since his acception to office, Muntu has faced hostility generated by a faction loyal to his predecessor Col. Kizza Besigye who perennially accuse him of sinking the powerful opposition party with his non-confrontational political approach.
Solid Leadership
Muntu leads a camp of moderates who are tolerant to their rivals and believe highly in capacity building and grassroot mobilisation to be able to take power.
Muntu’s perceived main opponent in the FDC contest- Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) leads a campaign tagged on “reviving unity in the party with the sole aim closing off divisions that have plagued FDC for the last five years.”
The last five years with Muntu at the helm, his (Muntu) administration has encountered turbulence which threatened to disintegrate the strongest opposition establishment.
Muntu is our Leader!
But, pro-Muntu members credit their candidate for the zeal and boldness he exhibited amid such implosion and being able to establish visible structures at the grassroot level.
Speaking on Tuesday to Bunyoro sub-region delegates, Muntu made a veiled statement likening himself to a rally driver without a sound car that can deliver victory.
“In Uganda, our people spend more time looking for a rally driver than preparing and working on the rally car. When you get Ssebuguzi who is the best rally driver in Uganda and you give him a DMC, a less experienced driver with a good rally car will beat him hands down, ” he said.
“I concentrate my efforts on preparing a rally car than a rally spending more time looking for a rally driver.”
He responded to critics saying he knows how to position himself as a popular leader, but currently, he focuses his energies on building a strong formidable FDC that is a force.
“I know how I can market myself to become popular at the national level! That is not important now, I want to build the party first,” added Muntu.
Muntu on his Bunyoro sub region grass root campaign met voters from Buliisa, Hoima, Kiryandongo and Masindi.
Muntu was accompanied by Hon. Angelina Osege, Hon. Ariko Hebert, Kasiano Wadri, Rajjab Kaaya, Sheik Katuramu, Jackson Wabyona among others.
FDC is headed to the polls to pick their next president on November 17.
