An intelligence report to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura reveals that the force has lost 12 of its officers who were brutally murdered and their riffles taken.
Shockingly the assailants have remained at large. This further rattles the IGP whether the assassinations are planned by insiders who leave no traces of evidence even when the murders bear same hallmarks.
According to Spynet the horrible incidents have since forced Kayihura to make changes in his commanders in more than 3 regions.
A report seen by Spynet, among the 12 officers murdered are those from Sipi region where one was killed and gun taken in Kapchorwa district.
Constable Charles Olanya was killed in cold blood and his AK 47 was taken. 4 were also killed in Kween district which forced Kayihura to fire District police commander and the OC CID.
Another police officer was killed in Mukono this month a one PC Okwongo David and his gun was taken.
“The lost guns are suspected to have killed two people in Gulu town and three in Toro region and other robberies in Kayunga,” Spynet reported.
In Bukwo district the gun which was stolen from police have been used to kidnap two people, 3 children last Saturday.
On 15/May 2017 in Buikwe district two SMG machines went missing while on June 16, 2017in Kalangala a police officer also lost an AK47.
The report by Crime intelligence sent to Kayihura yesterday Monday indicates that 10 guns were stolen from police and are the same guns suspected to have so far been used to kill 6 people in Northern Uganda and Central region.
The same report shows that the officers are responsible for the missing guns where neglect of duty is cited in the gun disappearances.
Sources in Kayihura’s office narrated to us that, it was the first time for police to lose such number of guns in shortest period. The police chief has since ordered for the prosecution of all officers who lost their guns.
However, police publicist Asan Kasingye when contacted declined commenting saying he is not aware of any report.
Yesterday 17th July marked 4 months ever since AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi was gunned down as he left his residence in Kulambiro, Kampala.
Although a number of suspected were netted following his execution, real killers have not been arrested.
