Retired Archibishop of Kampala, Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala was yesterday rushed to Nsambya hospital in Kampala over health complications and is being attended to by several specialists.
A relative who wished to remain anonymous said that frail Wamala is under the care of Father Paul Mugerwa who is in charge of the cardinal house at Nsambya, where Cardinal Wamala resides.
Sources said this is the first major ailment for the cardinal, as many of his past health conditions have been handled by his personal doctor, a nun at the cardinal’s residence.
Both the church and Nsambya Hospital declined to comment on his health.
The secretary general for the episcopal conference couldn’t pick our repeated calls.
Cardinal Wamala, 90, is one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI.
