The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has released its latest national hotel grading report, with top-tier facilities such as Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo and Kampala Serena Hotel leading the five-star category
The classification, conducted under the Tourism Act 2008, is part of government efforts to standardise hospitality services and strengthen Uganda’s position as a competitive tourism destination. Tourism remains one of Uganda’s top foreign exchange earners, contributing billions to the economy and supporting jobs across the value chain.
According to UTB, the grading exercise is aimed at improving quality assurance, boosting investor confidence, and enhancing visitor experience across accommodation facilities nationwide.
Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo, Kampala Serena Hotel, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, and Sheraton Kampala Hotel emerged as Uganda’s top-rated five-star establishments.
The four-star category features a strong mix of city hotels, resorts, and upcountry facilities, including Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, Golden Tulip Canaan Kampala, Hilton Garden Inn Kampala, Hotel Africana, Kabira Country Club, Mestil Hotel & Residences, Protea Hotel Kampala Skyz, Protea Hotel by Marriott Entebbe, Arcadia Lodge Lake Bunyonyi, and Emburara Farm Lodge, among others.
The three-star tier includes notable establishments such as Fairway Hotel, Imperial Heights Hotel, Silver Springs Hotel, Emin Pasha Hotel & Spa, Mount Gahinga Lodge, and Mahogany Springs Lodge.
UTB also listed a wide range of two-star facilities across the country, including 2 Friends Beach Hotel, Adrift River Club, Cassia Lodge, Forest Cottages, Koki Hotel, ONOMO Hotel Kampala, No.5 Boutique Hotel, and Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge, among many others.
The grading reflects Uganda’s growing and diversifying hospitality sector, with facilities spread across major urban centres, tourism hubs, and conservation areas.
Officials say the exercise will guide travellers, tour operators, and investors while encouraging facilities to upgrade standards in line with international benchmarks.
