Victoria University has appointed Meera Ruparelia as the new Representative of Directors to its University Council, marking what the institution describes as “a new chapter of leadership.”

The announcement, made in a press statement dated April 16, 2026, confirms that Meera Ruparelia has officially assumed the role following the passing of her father, Rajiv Ruparelia, who previously served as a director and played a significant role in the growth of the university.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects continuity in leadership and a commitment to the values that defined Rajiv Ruparelia’s contribution to higher education in Uganda, including innovation, resilience, and experiential learning. The university credited the late director with helping transform the institution into a modern, industry-aligned center of learning.

In her inaugural remarks to the University Council, Meera Ruparelia pledged to build on that legacy by ensuring the university remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global education landscape. She emphasized the importance of positioning the institution at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, particularly by strengthening the link between academic training and industry demands.

University management expressed confidence that her leadership will sustain momentum in advancing practical, skills-based education, which has become a defining feature of the institution’s approach.

The statement further noted that her appointment signals stability and long-term vision within the university’s governance structure, as it continues to expand its footprint in Uganda’s higher education sector.

Victoria University also reiterated its commitment to shaping the country’s education system by producing graduates equipped with relevant, market-ready skills.

Meera Ruparelia’s elevation to the council is expected to reinforce the university’s strategic direction while preserving the legacy of her late father, whose influence remains deeply embedded in the institution’s development.
