Newly elected Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s support continues to swell.

Apollo Kantinti an FDC candidate whom Bobi Wine trounced has on Tuesday pledged to work closely with him to uplift the standards of the constituency which is deemed underdeveloped despite its close location to the capital city.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni last week while campaigning for NRM contender Sitenda Sebalu, openly told off the residents of Kyadondo that they are victims of their own circumstance because of the wrong leaders they select.

The President’s remarks were however, not perceived in good faith.

Kyadondo voters for 11 years have exhibited ‘defiance’ by electing anti-government lawmakers.

Last Thursday, people of Kyadondo East again chose a government critic who is however attached to no political party.

The musician defeated his opponents with a landslide victory.

In his victory statement, Bobi Wine insists he didn’t seek this political office to make money but rather to work for the people.

His opponent now turned ally, Kantinti told TrumpetNews that he will throw his support behind the new MP so that they together finish the pledges he made while still in Parliament.

Kantinti was elected last year in February but Court overturned his victory on grounds of irregularities and ordered for fresh polls.

“I will now rally behind my brother and together we finish what I started,” he said.

Kantinti conceded defeat and thanked a section of voters who again entrusted him with support despite he didn’t make it to August House.

He further explained why he didn’t vote for himself having missed on the register.

Kantinti blamed Electoral Commission (EC) for the confusion that arose on the last minute.

“I earlier informed EC to transfer my name because I knew that I hadn’t registered from Kyadondo but I couldn’t simply divulge publicly because I was a candidate,” he said.

Bobi will be sworn in on July 11 as Kyadondo East Member of Parliament.

It however remains unclear how the singer will balance politics and music.
