The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a new round of senior promotions, with the Military Police Commandant, Brigadier General William Beinomugisha, elevated to the rank of Major General in recognition of his exemplary service and leadership.
Maj Gen Beinomugisha, who serves as Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, has in recent months been instrumental in improving discipline, welfare, and professionalism within the force. His leadership has also emphasized financial literacy among troops, urging soldiers to invest wisely for a secure future after retirement.
In the same promotions, Colonel Christopher Columbus Tumwine, who has been serving as Deputy Commandant of the Military Police, has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. Tumwine, a seasoned officer with years of service in various command and administrative roles, is credited with supporting Beinomugisha in reforming operations and ensuring closer supervision within the brigade.
Another senior officer who received recognition is Colonel Fred Zakye, Uganda’s Defence Attaché in Ethiopia, who has also been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General. Zakye has been lauded for strengthening Uganda’s defense diplomacy and regional cooperation, particularly in the Horn of Africa.
The new promotions, announced at UPDF headquarters in Mbuya, reflect the army’s continued commitment to rewarding professionalism, discipline, and loyalty within its ranks.
According to Defence officials, the exercise is part of an ongoing effort to recognize officers who have demonstrated exceptional service and adherence to the core values of the UPDF patriotism, discipline, and integrity.
The promotions bring renewed morale within the Military Police and across the wider force, as the UPDF continues to strengthen its leadership structure and maintain operational readiness both at home and in regional peacekeeping missions.
