A man who was previously captured on video threatening a family with a panga over a land dispute in Nabbingo, Kampala has now been linked to a deadly attack that claimed the life of an elderly man a year later.
The video, first posted in May 2024 by human rights activist Dr. Jim Spire Ssentongo, showed the assailant breaking down a perimeter wall and issuing death threats, claiming immunity due to his connections with powerful individuals in government and security circles.
Despite the clarity of the footage and multiple reports to police, the man walked free. No arrests were made at the time, and the threats against the family reportedly continued.
According to an update posted by Dr. Spire on Thursday, the situation escalated on Wednesday when a group of men stormed the family home in broad daylight.
They allegedly ransacked the house, appearing to search for documents, and strangled the father of Dr. Eva Nakato, a member of the targeted family.
The activist further stated that despite prior police knowledge of those issuing threats, no arrests have been made following the fatal incident. He also revealed that no forensic investigation, including fingerprint collection, was conducted at the crime scene.
In a related development, the family was recently informed in court that the land case had been closed without a hearing, raising further concerns about the handling of the matter by the justice system.
The Uganda Police Force has not yet issued a public statement regarding the murder or the earlier threats documented in the 2024 video.
