Businessman Nelson Tugume, the CEO of Inspire Africa, made headlines on Friday when he and his wife arrived at his Kampala office at Twed Plaza in a pair of brand-new luxury vehicles.
The occasion was the official launch of the upcoming Coffee Marathon, set to take place at Ntungamo Hills, the location of Inspire Africa’s coffee value addition facility.
Tugume arrived in a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, valued at Shs 1.5 billion, while his wife Atukunda was seen in a Toyota Land Cruiser Signature, estimated at around Shs 500 million.
The two vehicles drew attention as they were parked at the Inspire Africa offices during the event.
The launch follows a recent parliamentary decision in mid-March 2025, in which Inspire Africa received an additional Shs 60 billion in supplementary funding from the government.
The funds are intended to support various activities including the completion of international certifications and standards, purchase of coffee from local farmers, branding and marketing, as well as operational expenses at the Ntungamo factory.
This latest allocation brings the total government support to Inspire Africa to about Shs 97 billion over the last two years.

Tugume has previously stated that the goal of the facility is to increase Uganda’s coffee export revenue to $5 billion annually, up from the current $1.5 billion.
Speaking during a past interview, Tugume credited his success to “vision and persistence,” saying he has always looked for opportunities to grow Uganda’s coffee industry through innovation and strong partnerships.
The upcoming Coffee Marathon is expected to bring stakeholders together to promote fitness, tourism, and Uganda’s growing coffee sector.
