Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda has officially begun her tenure as Uganda’s Ambassador to Nepal after presenting her letters of credence to Rt. Hon. Ramchandra Paudel, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, in a ceremony held in Kathmandu on March 6.
Her appointment marks a significant step in enhancing diplomatic relations between Uganda and Nepal, which have been built on a foundation of mutual cooperation and development over the years.
Both nations share common goals in economic growth, poverty alleviation, and governance reforms, often benefiting from international partnerships, including support from the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
Uganda has shown keen interest in learning from Nepal’s experience in federalism and local governance, while Nepal, in turn, seeks insights from Uganda’s expertise in agriculture and natural resource management.
The deepening of these ties is expected to open doors for increased collaboration in trade, tourism, education, and investment.
Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Nepal’s Honorary Consul to Uganda, has played a vital role in strengthening the diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
A distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Ruparelia has been instrumental in fostering trade and investment opportunities, further enhancing bilateral relations.

He expressed optimism that Prof. Kikafunda’s appointment will lead to expanded partnerships in key sectors, including commerce, cultural exchange, and infrastructure development.
As Prof. Kikafunda embarks on her new diplomatic mission, her expertise and leadership are expected to bolster Uganda-Nepal relations, paving the way for new opportunities and strengthened cooperation between the two nations.
