The Pan African Congress Business Forum (PACBF) is set to take place at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Kampala, a prestigious event hosted by the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) in collaboration with the Africa Global Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) and the private sector from Uganda and the United States. This summit, aimed at enhancing Uganda’s exports to the U.S., is poised to play a key role in reshaping trade relations between the two nations.

Organized under the theme “A Diaspora Homecoming: Navigating the Next 100 Years,” the forum takes inspiration from the historical Pan-African congresses. It emphasizes the African diaspora’s potential to serve as pivotal economic growth agents for the next century. The event also seeks to leverage cross-Atlantic regulatory frameworks, fostering stronger engagements with multinational corporations and deepening partnerships with the African-American diaspora.

Speaking at a related event, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in July 2007, stated: “There is tremendous potential in Africa. Africa is a continent of the future. Just like India and China have become superpowers, in the next 25 years a lot of changes will have taken place.” His vision continues to inspire Uganda’s focus on trade expansion and development.

The event is expected to attract business and government leaders from the East African region, multinational agencies, financial institutions, and experts in various sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, exports, and trade. These participants will engage in networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, focusing on identifying products and services in demand in the U.S. market, and exploring distribution opportunities.

According to Odrek Rwabwogo, PACEID Chairman, “This event will not only showcase the potential of Uganda’s exports to the United States but also facilitate discussions on how to further strengthen trade relations between the two countries. Further, it will serve as a pivotal moment for Uganda’s global positioning, aimed at showcasing the country’s potential and capabilities to the world.”

The summit presents a significant opportunity for Uganda to strengthen its ties with the U.S. while supporting its re-entry into the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) program. Additionally, Ugandan businesses will have the chance to forge connections with the African diaspora in the U.S., opening doors for commercial and strategic export partnerships.

Participants at the forum will benefit from panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions, gaining insights into market trends, consumer preferences, and regulatory requirements in the U.S. There will also be speeches from leading figures in strategic infrastructure, development finance, and regional integration, offering invaluable guidance to attendees.

The forum’s agenda also includes site visits to some of Uganda’s top tourist and investment attractions, such as the Kasubi Tombs, Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Mweya Safari Lodge, and Murchison Falls National Park, showcasing Uganda’s diverse offerings.

Uganda’s trade with the U.S. in 2023 amounted to $186 million in imported goods, while its exports, which include coffee, vanilla, casein, Nile Perch, and cocoa beans, were valued at $74.1 million. This summit provides a strategic opportunity to enhance these figures and strengthen Uganda’s position in the global market.
