The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, welcomed the newly appointed Italian Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Mauro Massoni, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe this afternoon.
In their first official meeting, Gen. Kainerugaba and Ambassador Massoni engaged in discussions centered on enhancing security cooperation and mutual interests between Uganda and Italy. Both leaders acknowledged the long-standing historical ties between the two nations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
The diplomatic relationship between Uganda and Italy, which has been maintained over the years, was significantly bolstered by the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation in 2020. This agreement has paved the way for enhanced collaboration in various sectors, particularly in security and defense.
Gen. Kainerugaba expressed his warm welcome to Ambassador Massoni, highlighting the importance of their meeting in reinforcing the strong ties between Uganda and Italy. Ambassador Massoni, who succeeded Ambassador Massimiliano Mazzanti, expressed his eagerness to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor and to explore new avenues for cooperation.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both nations to continue working closely on security matters, aiming to foster peace, stability, and development in the region. The leaders expressed optimism about the future of Uganda-Italy relations, anticipating increased collaboration and strengthened partnerships.
