Uganda-EU business Forum gains Momentum as EU envoy meets PPS Omona

In a significant diplomatic move, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) Jan Sadek to Uganda, engaged in fruitful discussions on February 27, 2024, with Dr. Kenneth Omona, the Principal Private Secretary to the President of the Republic of Uganda.

The focus of the meeting centered around the eagerly awaited 3rd edition of the Uganda-EU Business Forum and the confirmed participation of H.E. the President. Scheduled to take place from March 5th to 7th, 2024, at Speke Resort, Munyonyo, the forum is a collaborative effort between the EU Delegation to Uganda, the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), the Uganda Investment Authority, and the Ministries of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, as well as Foreign Affairs.

Under the theme “Boosting Trade and Investment: What can Uganda gain from the Global Gateway?”, the forum aims to bring together key players from Ugandan and European public and private sectors. It seeks to promote trade and investments in transformative sectors pivotal to Uganda’s economic growth.

During the discussions, Ambassador Sadek, joined by his Deputy Mr. Guillaume Chartrain and Ms. Caroline Adriaensen, Head of Cooperation, outlined the comprehensive scope of the Business Forum and the meticulous preparations for the President’s participation.

Dr. Omona, expressing President Museveni’s commitment, assured the EU delegation that the President holds the EU as Uganda’s primary trade and investment partner. Emphasizing the President’s passion for attracting investments and promoting exports, Dr. Omona was optimistic about the forum’s potential to showcase Uganda and highlight lucrative business opportunities with the European Union.

Furthermore, Dr. Omona pledged to foster improved bilateral relations through regular consultative meetings with the European Delegation to Uganda. The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Christine Charity Mwebesa, Special Presidential Assistant for Economic Affairs, and Mr. Fred Moses Mukhooli, Head of the Foreign and Diplomatic Affairs Unit at State House.
