In a significant political development, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced Rosemary Olwoc, the daughter of the late Cecilia Ogwal, as the successor to her mother’s legacy in Dokolo district.
Cecilia Ogwal, a prominent figure in Ugandan politics, passed away at the age of 78 after a battle with cancer in India on January 18.
She was laid to rest in Lira on January 27.
Cecilia Ogwal had a distinguished political career, starting in 1996 when she entered parliament as the Lira Municipality MP.
Her dedication to public service led her to contest for the Dokolo Woman MP seat in 2005, a position she held until her recent passing.
Notably, she transitioned from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) during her political journey and had a close working relation with the ruling party. To her it was the country first!
Today, at the unveiling ceremony at FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, the party leader Patrick Oboi Amuriat praised Cecilia Ogwal’s years of service and commitment to the party.
In a strong condemnation of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Amuriat highlighted the issue of family rule within the NRM, emphasizing the need for a more democratic political landscape.
Rosemary Olwoc, stepping into her mother’s political shoes, expressed gratitude for the support she has received from the FDC and vowed to continue the fight for the people of Dokolo.
The move signifies a generational shift within the party and a commitment to uphold the principles championed by Cecilia Ogwal.
The FDC’s decision to field Rosemary Olwoc in Dokolo reflects not only the party’s trust in her capabilities but also a strategic move to address the political concerns for the people of Dokolo.
As the political landscape evolves, the Dokolo constituency anticipates a fresh perspective under the leadership of Cecilia Ogwal’s daughter.
