Ex-Officio Ministers Ordered to Return Age Limit Consultation Cash

Betty Kamya, the Inspectorate of Government

The Inspectorate of Government Hon Betty Kamya agrees with President Yoweri Museveni that her office is deeply rooted with corruption.

The President a fortnight ago, said all government institutions are infiltrated with corrupt officials including the ombudsman’s office.

Last week Hon Kamya who for long has been advocating for lifestyle audit as a mechanism to curb the rampant graft, shocked the nation with sentiments which left the citizenry speechless.

Kamya who had been hosted at National Medical Stores (NMS) in Entebbe openly said the victims of corruption are the commoners who can’t afford an air ticket to fly abroad for medical treatment.

She said, whereas millions of Ugandans are dying because there are no drugs in hospitals, President Museveni would facilitate his officers to seek treatment in Europe.

Her revelation rubbed the public the wrong way.

On Tuesday appearing on a local television morning talk show, the unapologetic Kamya reiterated that she was happy her sentiments trended on social media so that Ugandans can see the reality.

“All the people in government, including the legislators in Opposition, have benefited from public resources, being flown abroad for treatment. People are ignoring the reality I am talking about. The real victims of corruption should come out and fight it. This is the bitter truth,” she said.

“Some people were calling for my resignation because of the statement I made, but even the next IGG will get that car I am driving and won’t feel the potholes. The next IGG will also travel in business class when traveling out, that’s the reality.”

Asked whether she had not failed to curtail corruption as the President said, Kamya admitted that it is true her office has corruption which she found there.

“Yes they are there. Even before I came there, there was corruption. In fact Corruption is everywhere in the country, but the President was telling me to up my game,” she added.

“You remember when Late Oulanyah said everyone is corrupt in this country. What did he mean?”

Hon Kamya said she has over 5000 cases on her system and all filed by whistleblowers.

“Most of the investigations now are from whistleblowers. I have 5000 cases on the system now and all of them are from whistleblowers or complainants, people who think something is going wrong. When people get involved some work can be done.”
