Six people have been confirmed dead in Mubende district with signs of Ebola disease.
The Ministry of Health has since convened a news conference on Tuesday morning to brief the nation on the outbreak of the deadly virus.
A statement from Mubende Regional Referral Hospital reads:
On 15th September during the Mubende hospital morning assembly it was noted that was an increase in number of hospital deaths; some attributed to fevers and bleeding.
The meeting instructed the surveillance team to immediately investigate these and related cases.
On 15th September 2022 another patient was admitted at Mubende RRH presenting with profusion of blood from mouth and nose, jaundice, diarrhoea and fever. On Saturday, regional RRT chaired by Deputy director sat and decided to isolate the patient to the MDR-TB ward. Samples were collected from the patient and sent to UVRI for laboratory confirmation. At the same time, a team was dispatched off to Madudu to investigate the cause of the increasing deaths.
The team received information from the community about the strange illnesses and, deaths in Madudu/Butoloogo Sub-counties in Mubende District which were verified further by RRT as follows:
NP a female aged 10 months old from Kilwani village, Kiruma S/cty who died on 11/09/2022 from St. Florence medical clinic in Madudu S/cty
SK, a M/A aged 32 years old enrolled Nurse at St. Florence Medical Clinic in Madudu S/cty who passed on 15/09/2022 from Cure medical clinic in Mubende town.
KJ a F/A aged 43 years old from Bulega, Kiruma S/cty who died on 01/09/2022 from Mubende RRH
NJ female child aged 10 months old from Bulega in Kiruma S/cty who passed on 12/09/2022 from Kiboga district but buried in Bulenga, Kiruma S/cty in Mubende
NI F/A aged 56yrs old from Bulega in Kiruma S/cty who passed on 13/09/2022 from Mubende RRH
NB a female aged 02 yrs old from Bulenga Village, Kakenzi parish in Madudu S/cty who died on 15/09/2022 while on arrival to unidentified health facility.
Laboratory findings from UVRI indicate that the admitted patient that actually passed on today morning tested positive for Ebola Sudan variant. This is therefore to request you instruct your health workers, units/ health facilities departments to keep calm as we observe stern precautionary and infection prevention and control measures while doing our work. Renew their knowledge and increase their level of suspicion for VHF.
I have contacted the Ministry of health commissioners for epidemic response and control. Teams have been dispatched to the region to give us backup support.
