Gen Salim Saleh Akandwanaho has laughed off rumours spread by a clique of individuals both in Uganda and abroad that he had passed on, and the State is keeping his death a top secret.
A man in Luweero identified as Jakana Nadduli was recently remanded by Court for spreading fake news about Gen Saleh’s death.
While attending the traditional marriage ceremony of his daughter Esteeri Mugulwa in Kampala, Saleh used the opportunity to warn all those pronouncing him dead that he is alive and kicking.
“The devil is a liar. Sometimes the devil is tricky it comes as an angel. But the devil that has been around us is a liar. We still alive,” he said.
He sarcastically thanked his daughter for “giving me an opportunity to resurrect,” throwing the audience into laughter.
He had been out of public eye for over two months, igniting speculation that he was very ill.
The battle-hardened UPDF combatant further revealed that whereas NRA left the bush after capturing power, for him he has not.
“I am on ground and I am still in the jungle in Luweero. Most of you left the bush when we captured power. Most times I invite you in the bush in Luweero but some of u don’t want to go back to the bush,” Saleh, speaking in vernacular talked to many UPDF generals who attended his daughter’s ceremony.
Notable Generals who were present include; James Mugira, Jim Muhwezi, Henry Tumukunde, Sam Kavuma, Jerome Mugume and others.
A notorious National Unity Platform (NUP) blogger, a Ugandan based in Turkey Fred Lumbuye was among those Gen Saleh warned against propagating lies that he is dead.
“If I want Lumbuye I can get him at any time. Don’t you know that I am on ground? I can get him tomorrow,” Saleh said.
Lumbuye has many times attacked the members of the First Family.
Last year he alleged President Museveni and his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba had passed on.
Museveni responded by issuing a directive to all security agencies to arrest whoever spreads the fake news on social media about his health.
Reports started trickling in how Ugandan security had arrested Lumbuye in Turkey after he disappeared on social media for a long.
He has since resumed his toxic updates on various platforms.
