Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja has given green light to Nyege Nyege festival slated for September 15 to 18.

The event had suffered a setback on Tuesday when the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among regarded it as immoral and a vehicle to a propagate homosexual in Uganda.

“We are talking about morals of this country. We are talking about our children,” she charged.

“How do u promote tourism at the expense of our children? We are not going to allow that function to take place,” Among said throwing parliament into wild celebrations.

Her remarks drew ire among the sections of the public with majority denouncing Parliament’s decision.

Ugandans further attacked Among and her MPs for suffocating the already bleeding economy since Nyege Nyege attracts foreigners who pump millions of dollars into Uganda.

Against that backdrop, the Premier on Wednesday summoned the Minister of Internal Affairs Gen Kahinda Otafiire, ICT Minister Hon Chris Baryomunsi, Tourism Minister Tom Butime, Minister of Gender Betty Among and Ethics Minister.

The 3rd Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama also attended the meeting.

Nabbanja has since communicated to the media that the meeting has agreed with the organizers and other stakeholders that the event goes on but with strict  guidelines  to ensure nothing morally unfriendly is portrayed.
